3 killed in blast near Science Lab area

At least three people were killed and 13 injured in an explosion in a commercial building in the capital's Science Laboratory area next to Priyangan Market at 10:50 am on Sunday.

Joint Commissioner of Police Khandaker Mahid said the deceased were identified as Shafiquzzaman, Abdul Mannan and Tushar.

He said the injured were being treated in different hospitals in the capital.

Khandaker Mahid said, “The multi -storeyed building is in a very risky state. Fire service personnel are working with risk. Apart from the fire service here, the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Police is working.”

Khaleda Yasmin, the duty officer of the control room of the fire service, said that they had received information about the explosion in a building near at Science Lab in the capital.

Four fire service units are working to control the situation there, she added.

The traffic in front of the building was blocked due to the explosion.

She said, "The exact cause of the explosion in the building is not yet known. But some say that this incident can happen due to explosion of gas cylinder or AC. The extent of the damage was not immediately known."
