Nor’wester, hailstorm likely to hit between March 15 and 19

Strong nor’wester, thunder and hail may occur over Bangladesh and India's West Bengal between March 15 and 19. 

The impact of the nor’wester is likely to bring rain across the country, Mustafa Kamal Palash, a PhD researcher in meteorology and climate at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, told The Daily Samakal.

He said that the intensity of nor’wester may be highest over the districts of Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions. 

The risk of lightning is highest in all districts of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, Kishoreganj of Dhaka division, Brahmanbaria of Chittagong division and Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts of Rajshahi division, he added.

At this time, nor’wester may also pass over Dhaka. Many districts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are likely to witness 30 to 70 mm of rainfall. The maximum storm is likely to occur on March 17 and 18.

A couple of districts may experience isolated nor’wester before March 15.

Omar Faruk, meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorology Department, said that the weather of the whole country may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies on Thursday. However, there is a possibility of rain or thundershower in a couple of places in Rangpur division.
