Bangladesh needs more ADB support for education, infrastructures: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought more cooperation from Asian Development Bank (ADB) in education, human resources and infrastructure sectors.

She made the call while a visiting delegation of ADB led by its President Masatsugu Asakawa paid a courtesy call on her at Hotel Intercontinental Dhaka on Tuesday.

Prime Minister's Speech Writer Md Nazrul Islam briefed reporters after the meeting.

During the meeting, she urged the ADB to come forward to support stipends and mid-day meal programmes for school students.

The premier also reiterated her call to pick up a vice president for ADB from Bangladesh.

According to Masatsugu Asakawa, Bangladesh and ADB have been cooperating since 1973 as a trustworthy partner.

ADB will support Bangladesh on its intended path to becoming an upper middle-income nation by 2031 and a developed, successful, and intelligent Bangladesh by 2041, he added.

The head of the ADB praised Bangladesh's macroeconomic management in dealing with the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as the country's strong socioeconomic development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

PM Principal Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah and PM Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin were present.
