Pro-BNP lawyers narrate Wednesday's incident to Chief Justice

A section of Pro-BNP attorneys narrated before the full bench of the Appellate Division about the Wednesday's police action against them on the grounds of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique is the head of the 8-member Appellate Division panel.

Then the Chief Justice told the pro-BNP lawyers, "Come my chamber at 11am. If necessary, I will call the Attorney General.”

Former SCBA president AJ Mohammad Ali, new president candidate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and secretary candidate Md Ruhul Kuddus Kajol requested the chief justice to intervene and take steps to ensure their safety.

The BNP-backed lawyers pushed for the SCBA election to be cancelled while the pro-AL lawyers tried to punish the pro-BNP lawyers for obstructing the vote.

Wednesday's first day of the two-day annual SCBA election was marred by police assaults on the media and pro-BNP lawyers as well as brawls between pro-AL and pro-BNP lawyers.

The second day of voting started this morning about 10:30. Pro-BNP lawyers abstained from voting.

A good number of police personnel were deployed in and around of SC premises to avert further untoward incident.
