Road accidents claim 564 lives in March

The number of accidental deaths increased by 13.66% in March compared to the prior month, according to a Road Safety Foundation report published on Wednesday.

A significant increase from February's 487 fatal road crashes to 486 last month that tragically claimed at least 564 lives is noticeable.

Additionally, there have been more injuries, from 712 to 1,097.

According to the report, reckless driving, speeding cars, low-speed vehicles on highways, drivers with physical or mental illnesses, teenagers operating motorcycles carelessly, a lack of knowledge and disobedience of traffic laws, poor traffic management, institutional weakness, extortion, and defective cars are some of the causes of accidents.

A total of 88 women and 73 children were among the deceased, the report stated. A total of 179 motorcycle crashes resulted in at least 194 fatalities, accounting for 34.39% of all fatalities. The percentage of motorbike accidents is 36.83%.

In the meantime, 107 pedestrians perished in the collisions, making up 18.97% of all deaths.

In addition, 81 drivers and helpers perished, accounting for 14.36% of the fatalities.

Eight individuals were killed in six boat accidents during the month, while 19 railway accidents resulted in 16 fatalities and four injuries.

The Road Safety Foundation compiled the study using data from electronic media, seven online news portals, and nine national dailies.
