State seeks stay order on bail of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana

The state has filed an appeal seeking stay order on the bail granted by the High Court to Sohel Rana in the case of murder in connection with the collapse of high-rise building Rana Plaza in Savar, Dhaka.

This appeal was submitted to the relevant branch of the Appellate Division on Sunday.

Assistant Attorney General Saiful Alam confirmed to the reporters that the appeal may be heard in the chamber judge of the Appellate Division at noon.

The High Court, on April 6, granted bail to Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana. As a result, there is no bar to his release from prison, said lawyer Kamrul Islam.

A total of 1, 136 people were killed in the collapse of Rana Plaza, a 10-story building adjacent to Savar bus stand, on April 24, 2013. 

On April 29, five days after the incident, Sohel Rana was arrested from Benapole in Jessore while fleeing to India.
