Chamber judge stays Sohel Rana's HC bail order

The Supreme Court chamber judge has stayed till May 8 the High Court verdict that granted bail to Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana in a murder case.

In April, 2013, Rana Plaza collapsed and caused death of at least 1,135 people.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Md Abu Jafor Siddique passed the stay order on Sunday.

Earlier, a petition was filed by the state challenging the HC verdict.

As per the SC chamber judge's order, Sohel Rana cannot get released from jail.

Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi argued for the state while lawyer Md Qamrul Islam appeared for Sohel Rana during hearing of the petition.

On April 29, five days after the incident, Sohel Rana was arrested from Benapole in Jessore while fleeing to India.
