Motorbike allowed to ply on national highways

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said motorcycles will be allowed to operate on the national highways of the country during the Eid-ul-Fitr.

He, however, said that restrictions on bikes to operate on Padma Bridge will remain in force.

Quader came up with the disclosure after holding a preparatory meeting ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr at BRTA headquarters in the capital.

In order to ensure that traffic on the Dhaka-Gazipur section of the highway flows normally during the Eid rush, the minister also provided the necessary directives to the pertinent agencies.

The authorities prohibited biking on national highways during last year's Eid-ul-Azha in an effort to lower traffic accidents.
