Dozens injured in Comilla train accident

At least 50 people have been injured in an accident after Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express hit a freight train at Hasanpur Railway Station in Nangalkot of Comilla.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Railway Police Station Jasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed that the incident took place around 6:30 pm on Sunday. 

The railway connection between Dhaka and Chittagong is closed following the accident.

Jasim Uddin said some injured people were rescued from the scene and taken to the hospital. The number of injured people might be increased.

The station master of Nangalkot railway station said about fifty passengers were injured in the accident.

The injured have been taken to the local clinics, Upazila Health Complex, he added.

He also said that seven coaches of Sonar Bangla and freight train were derailed.

Eyewitnesses said the accident took place when the Sonar Bangla train hit the container mail train which was stationary at Hasanpur Station.
