Motorbikes start crossing Padma Bridge

Motorcycle movement has started on Padma Bridge since Thursday morning subject to certain conditions.

Motorcyclists are traveling on the service lane, on the left side of the bridge.

Although a toll both for motorcycles is allocated on Wednesday, but due to the pressure of motorcycles since morning, the toll is collected through the first two lanes.

Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Syed Rajab Ali said that in the last two and a half hours, about 3,000 motorcyclists crossed the Mawa toll plaza. So far the motorcyclists are crossing the bridge following the rules set by the government.

The conditions mentioned in the notification sent to the media from the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges last Tuesday are that the bridge must be crossed at a maximum speed of 60 km with the prescribed toll. Motorcycles must use designated toll booths and designated lanes. Under no circumstances may the designated lane be changed.

Motor bikers cannot overtake  on the bridge. Drivers and passengers must use the necessary safety equipment including helmets. Under no circumstances is it allowed to stand or take pictures on the bridge. A maximum of two people including the driver can ride on the motorcycle.
