No threat against Eid Jamaat: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq said that there is no new threat against the Eid Jamaat.

He said this on Friday morning while talking to reporters after observing the security measures at National Eidgah Maidan taken by the law enforcement agencies.

However, Faruq said special security measures have been taken keeping in mind the past incident at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj.

In response to a question, the DMP commissioner said that there is no specific threat against Eid Jamaat. However, since it is the largest Eid congregation in Dhaka, maximum security arrangements are in place, he added.

The whole field has been swept by CTTC's dog squad, which will continue till the morning of Eid Day, said Khandakar Gulam Faruq, adding that the entire area will be guarded by uniformed and plainclothes policemen to prevent any unwanted entry into the Eidgah maidan.

The DMP Commissioner said that four levels of security measures have been taken at the National Eidgah Maidan. 

“The entire ground will be monitored through CC cameras. Everyone coming to the National Eidgah has to enter through the archway,” he said.

The worshippers cannot bring anything other than prayer mat to the ground, he said, adding that no flammable material can also be carried.
