Dengue cases on the rise: Maleque

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that dengue cases are on the rise in the country, and called for people to practice caution against the mosquito-borne virus.

He made the remarks after officially inaugurating the World Immunization Week at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday.

Addressing the event as the chief guest, Maleque also urged people to keep their surroundings clean and free from stagnant water.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. An outbreak of the disease is usually seasonal, peaking during and after rainy seasons.

 The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies dengue as one of the top 10 threats to public health.
