Dress code relaxed for lower court lawyers, judges

Amid the heat wave sweeping across the country, subordinate court judges and lawyers no longer have to wear black coats and gowns for the time being.

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddiqui took the decision after a discussion with senior judges of the Supreme Court.

According to a Supreme Court circular issued on Saturday, judges and lawyers of all subordinate courts and tribunals in the country may wear a white full-sleeved shirt or white saree or salwar kameez, as well as a white neck band or black necktie. Wearing a black coat or gown is not mandatory.

The direction will be effective from May 14 till further notice.

However, the dress code for High Court judges and lawyers will remain unchanged.
