Withdrawal of additional security for envoys won’t affect bilateral ties: Foreign Secretary

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen said the withdrawal of additional security for foreign ambassadors in Bangladesh will not have any impact on bilateral relations. 

He said, “The matter is related to the protocol. Bangladesh's relations with various countries are regarded as more important issues.”

He made this comment in response to questions from journalists after a program at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

The foreign secretary said, “We will never compromise on the basic security of the various foreign embassies or ambassadors who are here. We guarantee this.”

Regarding the Vienna Convention, Momen said, “As the host country, we must respect and comply with the obligations given in the Vienna Convention.”

The Bangladesh government has decided not to provide additional protocol facilities to any ambassador or high commissioner of foreign missions in Dhaka.
