Deputy foreign minister of Uzbekistan meets FM Momen

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Saturday sought to improve ties between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan and hoped direct flights between the two countries will be re-introduced.

Momen made the call when a delegation of Uzbekistan, led by deputy minister of foreign affairs Bakhromjon A'loyev, met him at the foreign ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat, reads a ministry press release.

The two ministers held discussions about re-introducing direct flights between Dhaka and Tashkent. They were also hopeful of signing an air services agreement between the two countries.

Minister Momen recalled visiting Uzbekistan in 2021 and holding discussions with the country's president about establishing an Uzbek mission in Dhaka. Momen assured the Uzbek deputy minister of providing all necessary support for opening up the mission.

Bakhromjon A'loyev mentioned the historical relations between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan since the Mughal period. He emphasised economic diplomacy between the two countries and praised the socio-economic development and leadership of Bangladesh.
