Gazipur polls held very fairly: EC Alamgir

Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said the election to Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) was held in very fair, peaceful, free and impartial manner.

“We are very satisfied with the way the election was held. Because everyone, including the candidates, has expressed satisfaction. No one committed any wrongdoing in the whole day's voting. This is our big success,” he said.

Alamgir made the comments while briefing journalists on GCC polls at the Election Commission office in Dhaka's Agargaon on Thursday afternoon.

Replying to a question, he said it is not possible to tell the exact percentage of the turnout but it is not less than 50 percent.

Meanwhile, the vote counting is going on after the closing of polling of the Gazipur City Corporation elections. 

Voting was held from 8am to 4pm on Thursday using EVMs in all polling centres.

There are 480 polling stations in 57 wards in the third election of Gazipur City Corporation located with an area of 329 square kilometers.
