Child dies as rod falls on head from under-construction Dhaka Elevated Expressway

A child has died after a rod fell from the under-construction Dhaka Elevated Expressway on his head at Banani in the capital on Monday afternoon.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Banani Police Station Matin Biswas told The Daily Samakal that the identity of the child is yet to be confirmed. It is believed to be a street child, he added.

A passerby named Monir Hossain said that while walking under the Dhaka Elevated Expressway in Banani area, a rod fell from above and entered the child's head. 

“Seeing this situation, we rescued him and brought him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 12 noon,” he added.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said the child succumbed to his injuries at around 1:00pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He said the child's body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
