Peter asked about abrupt withdrawn of police road protection for ambassadors

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that US Ambassador Peter Haas in Dhaka had asked why the police road protection for ambassadors was suddenly lifted.

Peter Haas brought up the issue during a meeting with the home minister on Wednesday at the Secretariat in Dhaka. 

The new American visa policy was also tabled in the meeting.

The US ambassador had asked the home minister why the road protection had been abruptly removed, the home minister told the reporters after the talks.

The minister replied by claiming that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has changed the system.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, any country can seek the service through Ansar members if that country seems it is necessary. 

Kamal also let Peter know that measures will be taken to ensure the security of diplomatic missions and diplomats.

In response to questions from reporters, Asaduzzaman Khan stated, "They asked for some time [for road safety]. They have been informed that the Ansar Guard Regiment, which is very skilled, is being provided for security.” 

But more on this will be discussed later. 

If there is a sense of security, it will be taken into account.

The minister also mentioned that this security must be paid for.

The minister also said that Peter Haas asked for reactions on the new American visa policy. 

According to Haas, the aim of new visa policy is to assure a successful election rather than to directly target any one person.
