Japanese envoy calls on CEC Awal, inquires about national polls

Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori on Thursday called on Bangladesh Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal to discuss the upcoming 12th national polls.

"This is my first courtesy call on the commission. I inquired about the steps the commission is taking for a free and fair election," the envoy said after an hour-long meeting with the CEC at the Election Commission (EC) building in Agargaon of the capital.

Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam was also present there. After the meeting, he briefed the journalists.

"The honourable envoy wanted to know about our progress regarding the election roadmap, and the CEC briefed him about it. That was the main agenda of the meeting."
