Kamal for imposing surcharges on multiple vehicles

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made proposal for imposing kilowatt-based environmental surcharges on multiple vehicles.

The minister came up with the proposal while placing over Tk 7.61 lakh crore national budget for 2023-24 fiscal year at Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

According to Kamal, Bangladesh has recently taken the lead in the developed world thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's decisive leadership. 

The government has made it a policy to gradually embrace the Income Tax Act's best practices in line with those of the industrialized world, he said.

The finance minister said, “In continuation of this, the idea of imposing taxes on sectors that are harmful to public health is prevalent in the developed world and as an initiative to reduce environmental pollution in the country; I propose to impose various CC or kilowatt-based environmental surcharges on multiple vehicles.”
