Digital bank to be launched for financial inclusion

A digital bank would be established during the upcoming fiscal year, according to Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, to broaden and speed up efforts to promote financial inclusion.

A Bangladesh Bank (BB) committee is working to work out strategies to this end, he said in his budget speech on Thursday.

Kamal has placed the proposed Tk 7.61 lakh crore national budget for 2023-24 fiscal year at Jatiya Sangsad in this afternoon.

"The committee's work on formulating the outline for setting up the digital bank is now completed. We hope to be able to launch a digital bank in the next fiscal year."

In a recent program, BB Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder stated that the central bank is now preparing to introduce the digital bank.

There are currently 61 banks operating in Bangladesh, and several of them are currently experiencing a slump in operations.
