Load shedding might be tamed within two weeks: Nasrul

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said it may take two more weeks to resolve the power crisis across the country. 

“It was difficult to supply gas, coal and fuel oil as fuel. Due to this, load shedding has gradually increased. And now the load shedding situation has become unbearable,” said the minister while talking to reporters at the secretariat regarding the ongoing load shedding situation in the country. 

He said efforts are being made to bring coal as fast as possible for Payra power plant which is running at half of its capacity. 

Barapukuria Coal Power Plant and oil-fired power plants are also running at half of their capacities, Nasrul informed, adding that the power division is trying to find a quick solution to the problems.

However, Nasrul Hamid said this time there is no plan of scheduled load shedding like July of last year. 

He said, “The heat wave is sweeping over the country, so the electricity demand has increased. There is a shortage of a total of 2500 MW of electricity. Efforts are being made to reduce it gradually. The situation may return to normalcy in the next 10 to 15 days.”

When questioned about why the actions hadn't been taken earlier, he responded that they had been trying to address the matter for the previous two months.

"There were some money problems. We wouldn't be able to promptly open Letters of Credit,” he continued.

“All issues must be coordinated. Problems arise only when coordination is interrupted somewhere for some reasons. It happened this time too,” he narrated.
