Two siblings die after pesticide spray at home

Two siblings have died allegedly of poisoning after the pest control service applied pesticides to kill insects in a house in Bashundhara residential area of the capital.

The deceased are Shayen Mobarat Zahin, 15, and Shahil Mobarat Zayan, 9.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhatara Police Station Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the death of two children on Monday afternoon.

In the incident, their sister, mother Sharmin Jahan Lima and father Mubarak Hossain fell ill due to poisoning and returned home after receiving treatment at the hospital.

OC Asaduzzaman said, "Businessman Mubarak Hossain Tushar is the former president of Dhaka Uttara Royal Club. Aluminum phosphide tablets (gas tablets) were used in his home to kill insects, which produced a poisonous gas. The family witnessed the sad incident due to gas poisoning.”

He also said, "The body of the 15-year-old boy, who died at Evercare Hospital, was recovered and sent to Suhrawardy Hospital morgue for autopsy."

The deceased's aunt Dr. Ronak Jahan Rozi complained, “This incident happened due to the incompetent staff of Pest Control Service. Even after contacting the authorities of the Pest Control Service, I did not get a proper answer.”
