Road accidents claim 408 lives in May

There were 891 road accidents all over Bangladesh in the month of May. 408 people died and 631 were injured in these incidents.

According to a Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity report, 67 were women and 78 were children among the deceased.

The report was published on Friday after analysing accident reports published in national and regional dailies and online media of the country during the period.

In the same month, four people died and two went missing in six waterway accidents. On the other hand, 23 were killed and six were injured in 25 railway accidents.

The report adds that 141 people died in some 156 motorbike accidents across the country last month.

Of the accidents, 33.60 per cent occurred on national highways, 40.93 per cent on regional roads, and 24.45 per cent on other roads.

Besides, 27.29 per cent of accidents occurred in the Dhaka division, where 134 accidents claimed 102 lives. Meanwhile, only, 4.27 per cent of accidents occurred in Sylhet division, where 21 accidents happened in the month.
