Coal for Rampal power plant reaches Mongla port, unloading starts

A Chinese-flagged ship carrying 26,620 tonnes of coal for the Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat reached the Mongla port early on Saturday.

Khandaker Reazul Haque, assistant manager of Togi Shipping and Logistics Limited Khulna and local agent of the ship named MV J Hai, said the ship departed Indonesia for Bangladesh on May 21.

On Friday night, the vessel reached Mongla port's Fairway Buoy, and docked at the 11th anchorage of the Pashur Channel, Harbaria, at around 5:30am on Saturday. Unloading of the coal started in the morning.

After unloading at the port, the fuel will be transported to the power plant's jetty using lighter vessels. Lastly, the coal will be automatically stored in the power plant's warehouse.
