Decision on extending Eid vacation likely today

An executive order to extend the Eid-ul Azha vacation by a day may come at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

Replying to a question about the extension, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Sunday the extension would be logical.

The minister was talking to reporters at the secretariat. He said, "The decision has not yet been taken. The proposal (to extend the vacation) was sent to the cabinet. The decision will be taken there."

A cabinet meeting will be held Monday morning at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's office.

The proposal to extend the Eid holiday by one day and starting the holidays from June 27 was made on June 13 at a cabinet meeting at the secretariat.

After the meeting, Liberation war minister AKM Mozammel Haque said the proposal was made to make travel hassle-free for the people.

If the proposal is accepted, the Eid holidays will start on June 27 and end on June 30.
