Students of 7 DU-affiliated colleges block Nilkhet intersection

Students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) blocked the Nilkhet intersection in the capital on Tuesday morning, aiming to press home their seven-point demand.

The students staged protest on the road at around 11am, causing severe traffic congestion in the area. It also caused sufferings for admission seekers of Jahangirnagar University.

A 10-member team of representatives of the students called on Eden Mohila College principal and coordinator of the seven colleges Supriya Bhattacharjee at around 12:15pm.

Taslim Chowdhury, the coordinator of the protesting students, said, "We have met Supriya ma'am. She has reassured us that our demands will be met. A meeting will be held later in the day. We have blockaded Nilkhet intersection to make sure the meeting's outcome is positive."

Some of their demands include an explanation for harassing the students from seven colleges at  DU Registrar's Office and stopping further harassment, giving non-promoted students the chance to retake exams, relaxing the CGPA conditions.

At the time of filing of this report, students of the seven colleges were still on the road at the Nilkhet intersection. A good number of police personnel were deployed on the scene.
