Students of 7 DU-affiliated colleges call off movement

Students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) have withdrawn their road blockade at the Nilkhet intersection in the capital after receiving assurances that their seven-point demand will be met.

The students blockaded at around 11am on Tuesday, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.

A 10-member team of representatives of the students called on Eden Mohila College principal and coordinator of the seven colleges Supriya Bhattacharjee at around 12:15pm.

Taslim Chowdhury, the coordinator of the protesting students, told The Daily Samakal, "We have met Supriya ma'am. Her attitude towards meeting our demands seemed positive. If our demands are not met, we will blockade Nilkhet intersection for indefinite period on Thursday."

After talking to the principal, the students lifted their road blockade at around 1:30pm and vehicular movement resumed in the area.

Some of the seven-point demand includes an explanation for harassing the students of seven colleges at the DU Registrar's Office and stopping further harassment, giving non-promoted students the chance to retake exams, relaxing the CGPA conditions.
