Woman stabs husband to death, calls 999 to surrender

A woman in Dhaka's Rayer Bazaar has stabbed her husband to death and called the National Emergency Helpline 999 to surrender.

The incident happened at a house named "Litoner Bari" on Sadek Khan Road early on Thursday, National Emergency Helpline Inspector Anwar Sattar confirmed The Daily Samakal.

After receiving the call, the National Emergency Helpline notified the Mohammadpur Police Station.

On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Banu Begum, 31, from the location.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Miah, 40, from Muktagacha of Mymensingh. He was a rickshaw puller.

Mohammadpur Police Station Duty Officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Kamrul Islam said Shamim Miah and his second wife Banu had frequent disagreements. They got married two and a half years ago.

Banu Begum claimed that her husband often beat her for dowry. She killed him out of frustration, the SI said.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad told The Daily Samakal, "Shamim and Banu started living in the rented house in Dhaka two months ago. They were childless. Shamim's first wife and their children live in Mymensingh."

If the family of the deceased want to sue Banu Begum, she will be produced before the court, the OC said. The police are now investigating whether Banu Begum had an accomplice in the murder.
