UN peace operations chief coming to Dhaka on Sunday

United Nations Under Secretary General (USG) for Department of Peace Operations Jean Pierre Lacroix will reach Dhaka on Sunday for a two-day visit.

A UN Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting will be held in Accra, Ghana, on 5 and 6 December 2023, for which a series of preparatory meetings have been scheduled. The UN peace operations chief will attend the first of these preparatory meetings, to be held in Dhaka on June 25 and June 26.

The meeting will also have representatives from 40 countries. The representatives will also visit the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT), Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen said in this regard.

Meanwhile, Catherine Pollard, UN Under-Secretary-General for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance, arrived in Dhaka on Friday. Both she and Jean Pierre Lacroix are likely to make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Masud Bin Momen added.
