Low-pressure forms over Bay, squally weather likely

A low-pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said. The met office also issued squally weather warnings for the country's maritime and inland river ports.

"Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places

over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh & Dhaka

divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions," reads the regular BMD weather forecast issued Sunday.

Day and night temperatures will remain nearly unchanged. 

This forecast will be valid for 24 hours commencing at 9am on Sunday.

Rainfall activity may increase in the next 72 hours, the bulletin reads.

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay, and adjoining coastal areas, the BMD also said. A warning message issued Sunday morning reads, "Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No. Three (R) Three. "

The met office also advised all fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

A separate inland riverport warning issued by the BMD reads. "Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary South/South-Easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 KPH is likely to occur over the regions of Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet wherein riverports shall hoist Cautionary Signal No. One (R) One.

This warning will be valid till 6pm, commencing at 9am on Sunday.
