Rains hamper cattle markets, traders fear loss

The situation of sacrificial animal markets in the capital city of Dhaka is very bad due to the rains of the last two days.

While visiting Rahmatganj, Sarulia, Aftabnagar and other cattle markets, it was seen that buyers and sellers are in trouble in the muddy cattle markets. 

Many sacrificial animals have become sick for staying a long time under the rainfall. Some of the markets are flooded with rain water. In some cases, cows are kept knee deep in water. Buyers have to wade through the mud to buy those. 

Many traders have kept sandbags and put cows on top of them to protect them from rainwater. 

Under the circumstances, the price of animals has also decreased and eventually traders are afraid of loss.

Talking to the traders, they said that the number of customers is low due to bad weather. Those who are coming to the market, they are leaving just asking for the price. 

However, they hope that if the weather is good, the sale of animals will gather again.

A total of 17 temporary animal markets have been set up in two city corporations of the capital. Apart from these, traders have brought many cows to two permanent cattle markets in Gabtali and Sarulia.
