Maritime ports advised to lower signal, riverports to remain alert

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised the maritime ports to lower the cautionary signal as squally weather is unlikely. However, it advised inland riverports of 10 districts to keep the cautionary signal hoisted.

"Squally weather is unlikely over the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to lower signal," reads a BMD bulletin issued on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, the BMD had advised the maritime ports to keep hoisted the Local Cautionary Signal No Three (R) Three.

Meanwhile, an inland riverports warning reads, "In association with rain or thundershowers temporary south/south-easterly gusty/squally wind speed 45-60kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barishal, Mymensingh and Sylhet wherein riverports shall hoist Cautionary Signal No One (R) One."

This warning is valid till 1pm, commencing at 5am on Friday.
