Launch fire at Sadarghat under control

A fire that broke out in a launch at Sadarghat Launch Terminal was brought under control on Friday noon.

The Dhaka-Chandpur route launch 'Moyur-7' caught fire at around 11am. On information that the second storey of the launch caught fire, the first firefighting unit of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) rushed to the spot at 11:05am. They brought the fire under control at 12:10pm.

Confirming the incident, FSCD media official Anwarul Islam Dolon said a total of 13 firefighting units worked to control the blaze.

Sadarghat River Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhananjay told the Daily Samakal that there were no passengers in the launch when the fire broke out. It was docked at the Chandpur ghat.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
