Ashwina and Langra mangoes from Chapainawabganj, Bogura yogurt, Tulsimala rice from Sherpur have been accorded Geographical Indicator (GI) product certification.

According to Deputy Register (Deputy Secretary) of the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT) Md Jellur Rahman Bangladesh is now the sole owner of the four objects.

Bangladesh now has a total of 15 different GI products. These goods are owned solely by Bangladesh.

A unique word or symbol known as a geographic indication (GI) can be used to pinpoint the geographic location or source of an item (such as a nation, area, or city).

The biggest benefit of GI products is their superior positioning in the worldwide market compared to other items of a similar nature.

Jamdani saree was recognized as a GI product for the first time in Bangladesh in 2016.

The Geographical Indication Products (Registration and Protection) Act was enacted in 2013.
