Trainee doctors go on strike demanding pay rise

Trainee doctors have called an indefinite strike, demanding a monthly pay rise, on Saturday.

The doctors are on strike from 11am. They have also taken up a position at the Central Shaheed Minar.

Striking doctors have said they receive Tk 20,000 as an allowance, and they are demanding it to be raised to Tk 50,000.

Regarding the strike, Postgraduate Private Trainee Doctors Association President Dr Jabir Hossain said, "For the last six months, we have gone to several departments of the government to seek solutions to our problems and to demand a pay rise.

"Everyone said our demands are logical. But we don't see any steps to fulfil our demands. So, we have called the strike. We will remain on strike till our demands are met."
