Chemical blast kills worker in Keraniganj factory

One worker was killed and two more were injured when a chemical explosion occurred at a factory in Dhaka's Keraniganj on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Yasin Miah, 23. The two injured were Md Rabbi Hossain and Md Biplab Ahmed.  The incident happened at the Most Design and Manufacturing factory in front of Bongram Boro Mosjid in Tegharia Union of South Keraniganj.

South Keraniganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shah Zaman confirmed the matter. He said the body of the deceased was sent to the morgue of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, commonly known as Mitford Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, a number of works related to grills are done in this factory. On Friday evening, a pickup van full of equipment and gallons of chemicals were brought to the factory.

While unloading some chemical-filled gallons, the agitation caused an explosion. Yasin bore the brunt of the explosion and died on the spot, while Rabbi and Biplab were burnt badly.

The two injured were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS). Doctors have said Rabbi is in critical condition.
