US Under Secretary Uzra Zeya in Dhaka

Uzra Zeya, US under secretary for civilian security, democracy and human rights has arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday on a four-day official visit.

On her arrival in the evening, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen welcomed Zeya.

Donald Lu, assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia, and Anjali Kaur, deputy assistant administrator of the USAID Asia bureau were included in the delegation.

The delegation is scheduled to visit the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Zeya will hold meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.

According to US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller at a briefing in Washington on Monday, Zeya would speak on common humanitarian issues such the Rohingya refugee crisis, labor issues, human rights, free and fair elections, and combatting human trafficking.

Additionally, she will speak with representatives of the civil society about democratic government, human rights at work, including those of vulnerable groups.
