Seized heroin turns into pickles

Packets of heroin which were seized three years ago were found to be packets of pickles instead when they were presented as evidence to the court on Tuesday.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) confiscated 1.29kg of heroin around three years ago and a case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act with the Natore Sadar Police Station. A hearing on the case was scheduled for Tuesday (July 12). However, the evidence turned out to be packets of pickles.

Natore District and Sessions Judge Md Shorif Uddin summoned the investigation officer of the case to the court on July 25 to present explanations in this regard.

RAB-5 was conducting a search drive in a passenger bus in the Ekdala area of Natore Sadar Upazila on September 4, 2021, when they detained a man named Masum, said Natore District and Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor Advocate Sirajul Islam.

Packets of powder which looked like heroin were found in Masum’s possession during the drive. A total of 1,29kg of such powder in 7 packets were confiscated. A case was filed in this regard. Masum is in jail in connection with the case at present.

On Monday, Natore District and Sessions Judge visited the jail when Masum implored him to check the evidence. 

Sirajul Islam said, 12 witnesses have already given their accounts in this case. The sealed packet of evidence was opened on Tuesday. But instead of drugs, the packets contained a substance that looked like pickles.
