DNCC Covid hospital to be declared dengue dedicated

The government has decided to declare the Dhaka North City Corporation's (DNCC) Covid-19 dedicated hospital as dedicated to treating dengue patients. The hospital is already offering treatment to dengue patients admitted there.

Directorate General of the Health Services (DGHS) Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Deputy Director Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

The hospital will be declared dedicated to dengue treatment once adequate manpower and supplies have been sourced, he said.

In Bangladesh, the dengue situation has taken an alarming turn. The mosquito-borne disease has already spread to 61 districts of the country.

Seven more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Tuesday morning – the highest single-day casualties from the mosquito-borne disease this year.

The new casualties have raised the number of dengue fatalities in Bangladesh to 83 this year.

During the period, 1,054 more patients – the highest single-day tally reported this year – were hospitalised with dengue fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

So far, the DGHS has recorded 14,897 dengue cases and 11,511 recoveries.

According to the DGHS tally, Bangladesh recorded 70 out of 83 dengue casualties in June and July.
