Maritime ports asked to hoist cautionary signal 3

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised the maritime ports of the country to keep hoisted the cautionary signal no three in light of squally weather.

A warning message issued Saturday reads, "Due to active monsoon, deep convection is taking place over North Bay. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas.

"Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No Three (R) Three."

The bulletin also advised fishing vessels to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

Squally weather was also predicted elsewhere in the country. The BMD in an inland riverports warning said, "In association with rain or thunder showers temporary south or south-easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 KPH is likely to occur over the regions of Jashore, Kushtia, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar wherein riverports shall keep hoisted Cautionary Signal No One (R) One."

This warning is valid till 6pm, commencing at 9:30am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the regular weather bulletin of the BMD reads, "Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country."

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, reads the bulletin valid for 24 hours commencing at 9am on Saturday.

A forecast issued at 1am for Dhaka and neighbouring areas predicted light rain or thundershowers.
