Attack on Hero Alam: DB detains 7

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has detained seven people in connection with the physical assault on independent candidate Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam during the voting in Dhaka-17 by-polls on Monday.

However, no case has been filed yet in this incident. The police are waiting for Hero Alam to lodge a complaint, said DMP (DB) Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.

He was speaking at a press conference arranged at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Terming the attack on Hero Alam as an 'isolated incident', Harun-or-Rashid said, "The incident happened suddenly within 3-4 minutes. We have detained seven people after checking CCTV footage. An investigation is going on over the insult incident."

He also said, "We are trying to understand the motive of people who carried out the attack wearing badges."

Both the United States and the United Nations have expressed concern over the attack.
