Henley Passport Index: Bangladesh passport gets stronger

Bangladesh's passport has moved up 5 notches in strength, occupying the 96th rank in the Henley Passport Index.

The global passport ranking for 2023 was conducted based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority, or IATA, which ranks the world’s passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

The Bangladeshi passport entitles visa-free travel to 40 destinations, according to the latest ranking by Henley Passport Index, released Tuesday. The index is updated every quarter.

According to the index, Singapore has overtaken Japan as the world's most powerful passport at present. The country allows its passport holders visa-free entry to 197 out of 227 destinations in the world.

Germany, Italy and Spain tied in second place, with their citizens being able to visit 190 global destinations.

Japan now occupies the third place, its passport allowing visa-free entry to 189 destinations. Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea and Sweden share the rank with Japan.

Among the neighbouring countries, India occupies 80th rank, Bhutan 84th, Myanmar 89th, Sri Lanka 95th, Nepal 98th, and Pakistan 100th.
