Low-pressure area forms over Bay: BMD

A low-pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay and the adjoining area. As a result, rain is likely in a lot of places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said.

A BMD weather bulletin issued Thursday reads, "The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, the centre of the low, West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh. Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay."

It adds, "Light to moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Khulna and Barishal divisions and one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country."

Meanwhile, a mild heat wave is sweeping over the Rangpur division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna and Chuadanga and it may continue. 

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, according to the forecast valid for 24 hours, commencing at 9am on Thursday.

On the other hand, the weather of Dhaka and neighbouring areas will remain mainly dry, with the day temperature rising slightly, the BMD said on Thursday morning. The sky will remain temporarily partly cloudy over the area.

The BMD did not issue any marine or inland riverports warning.
