PM inaugurates Akhaura-Laksam dual gauge double-line track

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the 72km Akhaura-Laksam dual-gauge double-line track of the Dhaka-Chattogram rail corridor.

The inaugural ceremony of train operation on the track was held at Laksam railway station on Thursday. The PM inaugurated the track virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

After being upgraded to dual-gauge double-line, 72 trains can run daily on the track. The speed of trains will also increase by around 10-20km per hour.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujon, Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam, and Law Minister Anisul Huq were present at the ceremony at Laksam end.
