EU concerned about press freedom, human rights in Bangladesh

Eamon Gilmore, the Special Representative for Human Rights for the European Union (EU), raised concern over Bangladesh's press freedom and human rights situation prior to the next general election.

Gilmore came up with the comment while talking to journalists after a meeting with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kamal Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday.

He told the reporters that an EU delegation, who has recently visited Bangladesh to assess the electoral environment, will submit their report shortly. 

Gilmore said, “The topics that we discussed regarding the country's environment for civil society and the media are those that also worry us.”
