Next general election to be free and fair, Kamal to EU delegation

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the representative of the European Union (EU) Eamon Gilmore that the cases of disappearances, murders and extrajudicial killings have reduced a lot in the country.

He said this in response to a question from journalists after a meeting with Eamon Gilmore, the EU’s special representative for human rights in his office at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Khan assured the visiting EU delegation that the next general election would be free, fair and without violence.

Kamal informed the team that the Election Commission will work independently during the three-month-time of the government.

He also said that the constitutional government will extend their all-out support to the EC for holding the polls fairly.

The minister continued by stating that the law enforcement authorities are more than equipped and able to assist the EC in holding a peaceful and fair election.
