Bangladeshi hajj pilgrim death toll rises to 117

The number of Bangladesh hajj pilgrims who died in Saudi Arabia this year has reached 117, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Among the deceased, 26 were female and 91 were male.

Ninety-five hajis died in Makkah, nine in Mina, eight in Madina, two each in Arafah and Jeddah and one in Mujdalifa.

According to the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB), this is the highest number of deaths of Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia in a year.

The first return hajj flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying 418 pilgrims arrived on July 3. A total of 98,746 hajj pilgrims returned as of July 26 in 260 flights of Biman, Saudia and Flynas.

The return hajj flights will continue till August 2.
