Man beaten to death in Dhaka's Shantinagar

A man was allegedly beaten to death in the underground level of a building at Shantinagar of the capital on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Md Khaled Sheikh, 26. The incident happened in the underground level of a building named Abed Holding, next to the Eastern Plus market at around 11pm.

According to police, the younger brother of one of Khaled's friends was being beaten up on suspicion of theft at the location. Khaled tried to stop them and as a result, the miscreants started beating him too.

Khaled's uncle's friend Sajib said around 15-20 people, including security guards, were beating up Khaled's friend's younger brother. Khaled also fell victim to the beating when he tried to stop them.

Sajib recovered Khaled from the spot later and brought him to the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Inspector Bachchu Miah, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, said an unconscious man named Khaled was brought to the hospital, after which he was declared dead. Relatives have alleged that he was beaten to death.

Khaled's body is kept in the morgue. Paltan Police Station was notified of the matter, Bachchu Miah added.

Paltan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sentu Miah said some people were detained in this connection and that an investigation would be carried out.
