32 including 24 BUET students released from jail

Among the 34 students arrested from Tanguar haor in Sunamganj on charges of planning a "secret conspiracy" against the government, 32 were released on Wednesday night.

The released students were handed over to their guardians by the Sunamganj District Jail authority at around 10pm. 24 Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) students were among those released.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Sunamganj court granted bail to the 32 students. Judge Farhan Sadik of Judicial Magistrate Court-4 in Sunamganj passed the order. As the other two were minors, the judge suggested their bail plea be sent to the child court.

On July 30, the students were detained from a tourist boat near the Takerhat area of Tanguar haor. The next day, police filed a case with Tahirpur Police Station against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act on charges of planning a "secret conspiracy" against the government.

Showing them arrested in the case, the students were then produced before the court. 32 of them were sent to jail and two minor students were sent to a juvenile correctional facility.
